| CADIZ, SPAIN-(30-7-2002) The net cost of the Worlds will come to 4,252,314.83 euros
The Executive Committee of the Cadiz 2003 ISAF Olympic Sailing World Championships, headed by the Mundo Vela Provincial and the Public Limited Company for Andalusian Sports (Deporte Andaluz) has approved the general budget for the Worlds, which totals 4,252,314.83 euros (over 715 million pesetas).
The Committee, which met in the Regio Room at the Provincial Council of Cadiz at 12.30 h, was chaired by its Chairman, and also of the Provincial Council, Rafael Román, and deputy chairman, the general director of Activities and Development of the Department for Tourism and Sport, José Sanchís.
Its members, made up by representatives of the Cadiz Provincial Council, the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, local town and city councils and the Andalusian Sailing Federation, have now chosen the official mascot for the Championships.
They have thus ratified the jury’s decision, which last week announced that it had chosen the local designer from Cadiz, Raúl Gómez Alonso, and his design: Marino (see attached photo).
The image of the Championships will soon be registered, in accordance with what was agreed during the meeting, while a period of one month has been set for any relevant claims or objections to be made.
Román pointed out that “we have taken a huge step forward today, as we have dealt with topics that are of enormous importance for the Championships, such as the budget, partnership agreements with companies and town councils…. it has been a very productive day: We are going full steam ahead”.
Sanchís confirmed that “within a year, everything will be in place for a successful Worlds, as everything is going to schedule, people are being recruited and by passing the budget, we have given a real boost to the hard work that has been carried out since the beginning”.
The budget will be finally approved during the meeting of the Championship’s Organising Committee to be held at the beginning of September.
The other items on the agenda included the proposal to invite the Ministry for the Environment to be on the Committee of Honour, nearly thirty applications from companies wishing to be sponsors, authorising the purchase of 48 semi-rigid boats for the Championships, 10 of which will be given to the Red Cross in recognition of its services during next year’s event, approving El Corte Inglés as the official travel and accommodation agency and authorising the issuing of invitations to tender to be sponsors and be in charge of merchandising.
